I then cleaned up the flats by hand-rubbing with 400-grit, and then 600-grit paper (if you're reading this, John, this is the first knife that I've put a hand-rubbed finish on - it's all for you, buddy).
I still plan on stonewashing it. When I first started researching tumbled finishes I came across a post by Mick Strider where he said that stonewashing doesn't hide scratches, but rather makes them even more obvious. Let me tell you, he was right!
