I shaped the scales of the last knife using a round file. I was happy with the end result, but I've been thinking about ways to achieve the same result in a shorter amount of time. I still think a small wheel on the KMG will be the fastest method, though with my current grinding skills that approach is fraught with failure.
I decided instead to attempt it with a carbide cutter in the ol' Dremel. After some experimenting I found this worked best at about 20 - 25K RPM's. It's important to make nice, smooth passes and resist the urge to push harder when you want to remove more material. Hitting the inside curves was always exciting because the carbide cutter wants to dig in there.
This method did seem faster than using the file, but it still took a fair amount of time.
